Cancer Research and Clinical Trials

Crozer Regional Cancer Center has developed an active Cancer Research Program, which has grown steadily over time. Research endeavors include clinical trials dealing with the prevention and treatment of cancer. Clinical trials are state-of-the-art research studies using medicines, radiation therapy, surgery and/or other treatments. There are many kinds of trials, ranging from ways to prevent and treat cancer to studying the psychological impact of cancer.

Fox Chase Crozer-Keystone Cancer Partnership - Providing Patient Access to Clinical Trials

Continuing our longstanding commitment to cancer research, Crozer-Keystone Health System is proud of its collaboration with Fox Chase Cancer Center, one of the largest hospitals in the country devoted to cancer care. Fox Chase Crozer-Keystone Cancer Partnership combines its strengths to work on a range of clinical and research initiatives that have a direct benefit to our cancer patients.

Fox Chase Crozer-Keystone Cancer Partnership gives our patients access to more than 100 cancer treatment and prevention clinical trials that have been approved by Fox Chase and the National Cancer Institute. Patients who do not respond to standard therapy can avoid the need to travel to participate in studies. Because research is conducted in our hospitals, their care remains in our hands.

Additional Research

In addition to participating in clinical trials generated by Fox Chase Cancer Center for the Fox Chase Network, the Crozer Regional Cancer Center participates in studies coordinated by several national cancer research groups including the:

  • Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG)
  • National Surgical Adjuvent Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP)
  • Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG)
  • Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG)

Crozer-Keystone Health
System has also been designated a Cancer Trials Support Unit (CTSU), part of a pilot project sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) for the support of a national network of physicians to participate in NCI-sponsored Phase III cancer treatment trials.

In addition to ongoing research with these cooperative groups, Crozer-Keystone works with pharmaceutical companies to better define the role of various targeted agents in cancer therapy. The consistent increase in oncology research activities reflects the center’s commitment to delivering state-of-the-art care to our community today and defining the standards of care for tomorrow.
