The Delaware County Regional Cancer Center has an active support group program. Support groups are offered free of charge for patients and/or family members who are coping with any phase of a cancer diagnosis. Coordinated by a certified oncology nurse, the support groups provide an opportunity for people dealing with cancer to meet other people with similar experiences:
The General Cancer Support Group is open to anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer and/or their (adult) family members. This group provides a forum for people to discuss thoughts, feelings, concerns and questions about issues related to cancer diagnosis or treatment. It also provides a forum for newly diagnosed patients to meet people who are currently undergoing cancer treatments, or who have completed treatments and returned to normal activities.
The Breast Cancer Support Group is open to any woman who has been diagnosed with breast cancer; spouses and significant others are also welcome. The meeting provides time for open discussion among the participants, facilitated by the behavioral health specialist.
The Woman to Woman Support Group is open to women with gynecologic cancer diagnosis of any kind, in treatment or survivorship.
Man to Man, the prostate cancer support group is open to any man who has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. This group includes both an educational component and an opportunity to discuss issues of interest with the other group members. The support group is done in conjunction with the American Cancer Society (ACS).
Friends and Family is a support group for the family, friends, and caregivers of people with cancer. The meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. at Springfield Hospital in the Lower Level Conference Room. For more information, please call 610-284-8112.
