CKHS Senior Wellness Program Offers Events
for Local Residents in September

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. – The Senior Wellness Program of the Crozer-Keystone Health System has scheduled a variety of fun and exciting programs for area seniors during the month of September.   

  • Join the Crozer-Keystone Hearty Soles Walkers in safe, climate-controlled facilities at two area malls: the MacDade Mall (Monday-Saturday, 8:30-9:30 a.m.) and the Springfield Mall (Monday-Saturday, 8:30-10 a.m.; Sunday, 9:30-11 a.m.). For more information, call (610) 338-2729.
  • The Senior Wellness Bowling League meets every Tuesday from noon-2:30 p.m. at Conchester Lanes in Aston. Cost is $7 (includes shoes, three games and refreshments). To register, call (610) 485-5220. 
  • CKHS offers the AARP Defensive Driving Program, a two-day, eight-hour driving safety course that can help you improve your driving skills and save you money on insurance. Courses will be held: 

    Tuesday, Sept. 12 and Friday, Sept. 15 from 12:30-4:30 p.m. at the Healthplex® Sports Club at Springfield Hospital;

    Saturday, Sept. 16 and Saturday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in Classrooms A & B at Taylor Hospital;

    Friday, Sept. 22 and Monday, Sept. 25 from 12:30-4:30 p.m. in Room 306 of the Silberman Center on the campus of Crozer-Chester Medical Center

    Tuesday, Sept. 26 and Thursday, Sept. 28 from 12:30-4:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Crozer Medical Plaza at Brinton Lake. There is a nominal fee for the program. For more information, call (610) 338-2729.
  • The Crozer-Keystone Arthritis Support Group will meet on Thursday, Sept. 7 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at the Healthplex® Sports Club. For information or to register, call (610) 338-2722.
  • The Crozer-Keystone Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 10-11:30 a.m. in the Fourth Floor Conference Room at the Silberman Center on the campus of Crozer-Chester Medical Center. For more information or to register, call (610) 447-2935. 

The CKHS Dining at Dusk program has planned the following presentations for area seniors:  

  • All You Need to Know About Signs, Symptoms and Treatment of Heart Disease, presented by Edward LaPorta, M.D., chief of the Section of Cardiology at Delaware County Memorial Hospital. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 4:30-6:30 p.m., Delaware County Memorial Hospital Cafeteria. Cost is $5.30 (tax included; includes entrée, roll, choice of two sides, a fountain drink and free parking).
  • Beat the Bug: How Seniors Can Stay Healthy Throughout Flu Season, presented by William Zirker, M.D., chief of the Crozer-Chester Medical Center Division of Geriatrics. Thursday, Sept. 14, 5-7 p.m., Crozer-Chester Medical Center Cafeteria. Cost is $5 (includes entrée, roll, choice of two sides, a fountain drink and free parking).
  • Parkinson’s Disease, presented by Norman Leopold, D.O., medical director of the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Center at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. Tuesday, Sept. 19, 5-7 p.m., Café Carl at Springfield Hospital. Cost is $5 plus tax (includes entrée, drink, dessert and free parking).
  • Breast Imaging/Screening Mammography: The Latest Advances, presented by Lisa Collazzo, M.D., director of Women’s Imaging at Crozer Medical Plaza at Brinton Lake. Thursday, Sept. 21, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Media Medical Plaza, Suite 200, 200 E. State Street, Media. Program is free and includes free dinner and blood pressure screenings. As an added bonus, eligible participants will be able to receive screening mammograms before the lecture, starting at 4:30 p.m. Mammogram eligibility is subject to the requirements of your insurance carrier and may incur an added expense.
