Department to Offer Programs for
Local Seniors in September

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. – Crozer-Keystone Health System’s Senior Health Services Department will offer a number of informational programs during the month of September

 

Dining at Dusk: Crozer-Keystone is proud to present “Dining at Dusk,” a low-cost dining program that offers free lectures geared toward seniors. Join us for these events in September:  

  • Oh My Dysfunctional Kidneys: Risk Factors and Treatment of Kidney Disease, featuring Roy Marcus, M.D., chief of the Section of Nephrology at Taylor Hospital. Thursday, September 4, 5-7 p.m., Crozer-Chester Medical Center Cafeteria, 1 Medical Center Boulevard, Upland. Lecture is free; meal costs $5.30 and includes entrée, roll, choice of two sides, dessert and a fountain drink. Free parking is also included.
  • Why Does My Shoulder Hurt?, featuring Anne Colton, M.D., CKHS Orthopedic Surgeon. Wednesday, September 10, 4:30-7 p.m., Delaware County Memorial Hospital, 501 N. Lansdowne Avenue, Drexel Hill. Lecture is free; meal costs $5.30 and includes entrée, roll, choice of two sides, dessert and a fountain drink. Free parking is also included.
  • Is It Age or Is It Your Thyroid?, featuring Ruth Ann Fitzpatrick, M.D., chief of the Division of Endocrinology at Crozer-Chester Medical Center. Tuesday, September 16, 5-7 p.m., Cafe Carl (Healthplex® Sports Club in Springfield), 190 W. Sproul Rd., Springfield. Lecture is free; meal costs $5.30 and includes entrée, roll, choice of two sides, dessert and a fountain drink.  Free parking is also included.

Physician Lecture Series: Senior Health Services offers the Physician Lecture Series at several Delaware County locations. Join us for these events in September:  

  • Dental Health and the Impact on Wellness, featuring Daniel Daley, Jr., D.D.S., chief of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at DCMH. Wednesday, September 11, 5:30 p.m., Media Borough Hall, Mansion Parlor Room, 301 N. Jackson Street, Media. 
  • How to Prevent Hospitalization and Nursing Home Placement, featuring Paula Patton, M.D., CKHS Primary Care Physician. Wednesday, September 17, 1-2 p.m., Crozer Medical Plaza at Brinton Lake, Community Room, 300 Evergreen Drive, Glen Mills.

Wake Up and Work Out: Start your day the healthy way! Come join us as Crozer-Keystone Senior Health Services and the Healthplex® Sports Club provide seniors with an opportunity to jump start their day by participating in structured health and wellness programs, while offering an affordable balanced breakfast. Participants will also benefit from the support of CKHS staff that will assist in coordinating medical appointments, as well as provide better access to appropriate medical services.

 

Due to the Labor Day holiday, Wake Up and Work Out, which is usually held on the first Tuesday of every moth, will be offered on Tuesday, September 9. A healthy breakfast, beginning at 7:45 a.m., may be purchased for $3 or less; followed by a 30-minute lecture, both to be held in Café Carl. A one-hour physical fitness session will then be led by a member of the Healthplex® team. Free garage parking. Call 1-800-CK-HEALTH (1-800-254-3258) for more information and to register.  

 

AARP Defensive Driving: An eight-hour driving safety course held on two days that can help you improve your driving skills and save you money on insurance. Courses will be held on Tuesday, September 2 and Friday, September 5, from 12:30-4:30 p.m. at the Healthplex® Sports Club in Springfield; Saturday, September 13 and Saturday, September 20, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park; Tuesday, September 23 and Thursday, September 25, from 12:30-4:30 p.m. at Crozer-Medical Plaza at Brinton Lake. Cost of the course is $10, with check made payable to AARP.

 

Also, a four-hour driving safety refresher course will be held on Wednesday, September 3, from 12:30-4:30 p.m. in the Conference Center at Delaware County Memorial Hospital. Cost of the course is $10, with check made payable to AARP.  Registrant must provide proof of previous participation in eight-hour course. To register for either of the courses, call Crozer-Keystone Senior Health Services at (610) 338-2729. 

 

CKHS Support Groups: CKHS offers Support Groups for a variety of conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, arthritis, cancer, diabetes, stroke and more. For more information or to register for a support group, call 1-800-CKHS-KEY (1-800-254-7539).

Caregiver's Support Group, Thursday, September 4 from 6-7 p.m. When an adult child becomes the parent of the parent, it can become very stressful — sometimes individuals just need to realize they are not the only ones dealing with that situation. The Caregiver Support Group meets the first Thursday of every month in the dining room of the ACE unit of Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland.  For more information, call 610-338-2729.

 

Arthritis Support Group, Thursday, September 4 at 2:30 p.m. at the Healthplex® Sports Club in Springfield. Learn how to live healthy with arthritis. Attendees are asked to check in at the Healthplex® for room information.  For more information, call 610-338-2729
