Crozer-Keystone Health System has affiliations with 21 local nursing schools –Misericordia University, Delaware County Community College, Delaware County Technical School (LPN program), Eastern College, Gwynedd Mercy College, Harcum College, Immaculata University, Lankenau Hospital, LaSalle University, Montgomery Hospital, Neumann College, Philadelphia University - Midwifery Institute, Roxborough Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Temple University, Thomas Jefferson University, University of Delaware, University of Pennsylvania, Villanova University, West Chester University, Widener University and Wilmington College. The Villanova School of Nurse Anesthesia has been located at Crozer since 2002.

Pre-Medical Careers Program

Nurses assist in the CKHS Pre-Medical Careers Program, which brings talented high school students to Taylor and Crozer to explore medical career opportunities. The program earned an Excellence in Youth Award from the Delaware County Workforce Investment Board.

Passport to Health
Students at a Delaware County school display their “Passport to Health” booklets.
A few years ago, nurses from the cancer programs at DCMH and Crozer developed the Passport to Health program. This program provides teachers in local elementary schools with booklets containing a series of educational worksheets that emphasize good health behaviors. In the 2007-2008 school year, the program reached more than 4,800 students in 24 Delaware County schools in third, fourth and fifth grades. The program is generously underwritten with support from AstraZeneca, Commerce Bank and the Crozer-Keystone Health System.

Smedley High School for Health Careers

Crozer-Keystone nurses participated in the fall 2008 creation of the Smedley High School for Health Careers in Chester, which is dedicated to preparing and motivating students to pursue further education toward a career in the medical sciences. In addition to classroom-based learning, students will have the opportunity to participate in internships and mentoring programs at Crozer-Keystone hospitals. Before opening the school, new teachers were hired, a new curriculum was developed, and the school was renovated with computers, laboratory materials and medical equipment to aid students in their learning.
