SPRINGFIELD – The Healthplex® Sports Club’s Delco Race Series, a free competition for runners of all ages featuring Delaware County 5K road races, continues in December with the third of its five races. Participants can still join to compete for medals and prizes.
The third race of the series is the Reindeer Romp, scheduled for Dec. 9 at Oakmont Elementary School, Darby and Eagle Rds., Havertown. The race is sponsored by Nolan Painting and benefits the American Cancer Society. For more information or to register, visit www.reindeerromp.org. The other remaining races are the Elwyn Maximum 5K Run, April 26, 2008 in Elwyn, and the 8th Running of the Monk in Springfield.
There is no cost to participate in the Delco Race Series, and everyone is eligible. All runners have to do is complete a registration form. Registration forms are available online at http://delcoraceseries.healthplex.net or can be obtained by calling 610-328-8888 or stopping by the club, located at 194 W. Sproul Rd. in Springfield. Note that the form registers runners for the race series, not for any of the individual races.
At the end of each race, points are awarded to runners based on their finish in each race compared with other Race Series participants. The runners who accumulate the most points throughout the series will receive special prizes at the conclusion of the Running of the Monk.
The top male and female, for example, will receive $300 each and a six-month membership to the Healthplex®. Currently, Owen Glatts of Drexel Hill is the points leader among males, and Beth Terry of Clifton Heights has the most points among female runners. Complete standings are available at http://delcoraceseries.healthplex.net.
