Crozer EMSTI hosts MCI Seminar - More Than 80 EMS Professionals in Attendance
CROZER EMSTI hosted a Mass-Casualty Incident Management Seminar presented by A.J. Heightman, MPA, EMT-P, Editor-in-Chief, JEMS (Journal of Emergency Medical Services) on October 28 & 29, 2006 at the Crozer Chester Medical Center Clark Auditorium. This is the second time that A. J. has presented this topic to our region here at Crozer.
Approximately eighty emergency medical responders from three states participated in the program, which included an opportunity to practice with the SMART Triage System. This system was adopted this year by every county in the region, and this training opportunity proved invaluable as a safe practice of the new MCI management tool.
Organized by Crozer’s own Fran Hildwine, BS, NREMT-P, CCEMT-P and JEMS Columnist and Product Specialists, the two day event provided instruction and practice in Mass Casualty Incident management. The second day provided the favorite session. Many students brought their ambulances and “handled” an MCI. The National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS) were employed to organize the response, staging, treatment, communications, transportation and rehabilitation sectors.
